Naomi Hille & Anousjka Röben
Naomi and Anousjka were born in Utrecht, in the center of the Netherlands, and this is also were their works place is based. They met during their time studying and the choices in style and personalities caused them to collaborate, during and after their studies. They were both continuously looking for the limits of artisan shoemaking and fashion.
SKUA is transformed out of a very old Dutch word: skuo (500 A.D.). Naomi & Anousjka switched the O into an A which turns this word from a masculine noun into a feminine noun. They felt more connected to SKUA because they are two dutch women who are making the shoes. During 2020 they created the Chayka Collection, where Space Age woman inspired their designs. In some way they were drawn to this area of colors and form language. It all started with Valentina Teraskofka she was the first (Russian) woman who went to space, her codename in space was Chayka. Chayka is Russian for sea gull, a funfact is that SKUA is also known as a type of seagull. This all came together in a strange but wonderful way. They aspire to produce their own designs in the Netherlands, to maintain and improve their knowledge of the shoe making locally.
